Exhibitions


  The ICM hosts numerous annual and original exhibits all year long, for a listing of upcoming events and exhibits, please click on "Events" on our main menu. Below is a list of our permanent exhibits and spaces, with pictures of past exhibits in these spaces.

Permanent Exhibits and Galleries:

**The Historic Exhibit is a permanent exhibit with rotating artifacts depicting life from pre-1850 through the early 1900's through to the present. This includes period rooms such as a turn-of-the-century kitchen, barbershop, pharmacy and parlor, to a room dedicated to our Nation's war history, as well as features dedicated to our regions waterways. **The Gibson Library houses important historical documentation as well as an extensive collection of John James Audubon prints. (The Museum's permanent art collection also consists of works by Boyd Cruise and Charlotte Hatchette prints.) The Gibson Library is also used for small exhibitions and is the current home for our annual 2008 Summer Film Series.

**The Gibson-Barham Gallery plays host to more than 6 temporary art exhibits each year. These exhibits represent local, regional, and nationally known artists.

**The Sallier Oak and Lynda Benglis Sculpture Garden which features the contemporary sculpture's of Louisiana's own Lynda Benglis and the famous 400 year old live oak.

**The Gallery Annex which features temporary fine art and historic exhibits, provides space for regional emerging artists, as well as a small gift shop and meeting space, also houses the Museum's offices.

Below you can view images of the permanent Historic Exhibit, as well as some past exhibits, many of which have been developed into traveling exhibits to benefit the entire State.

Past and Present Exhibits:

African Masks 2007

The ICM is developing a traveling exhibit for school children to learn about Africa. These rare African Masks are part of 17 total donated by local collector Jeff Ferguson to the ICM in April 2007.

"The Talking Machine" 2007

From the Museum's collection, this exhibit opened in the Gallery Annex in July 2007. Featuring items from private collections and the Museum's collection, showcasing rare records from cylinders to mid-century LP's, along with paraphernalia and advertising from the golden age of phonographs.

The Historic Exhibit

On permanent exhibit at the ICM, features artifacts, information, and memorabilia depicting life in the Old Imperial Calcasieu region from the Native Americans through the early settlers to the present.

"Hurry on Down: A Celebration of the Life of Nellie Lutcher" 2007

Featuring live musical and monologue performances, interactive listening stations, personal items, promotional material, rare photographs, recordings and much more, this exhibit was a show-stopper, much like Nellie Lutcher herself. "Hurry on Down," has been developed by the ICM into a traveling exhibit to educate school children around the state on the amazing life of Nellie Lutcher. This exhibit was presented by the ICM in conjunction with the American Press and sponsored by CITGO.

Boogaloo date for 2011 announced

"Boogaloo," the area's favorite annual party, will take place April 16, 2011. It's the Museum's major annual fundraiser, and it's an event not to be missed!

Among the exciting events and exhibits for the 2010-11 arts season coming to the Museum are a Clementine Hunter exhibit in September; a George Rodrigue exhibit, featuring a visit by the artist in January; a show by Austin potter Rick Irvin; and the one-of-a-kind Museum Attic Sale on November 5-7 in the Gibson-Barham Gallery.
