Summer Film Series
Each July in the Museum's Gibson Library, Lake Charles area media personalities bring us their favorite films, old and new, controversial and thought-provoking. These distinguished and knowledgeable film-buffs lead guided discussions after each showing and are sure to keep your tongues wagging long after you've left our "theater!' Refreshments are available and admission is $4 for non-members, free for Museum members.

Thursday, July 10: 6:30pm
"Deadline U.S.A." Starring Humphrey Bogart. Presented by American Press' Hector San Miguel. The story of the day in the life of a newspaper, weaving in stories of love lost, love found, gangsters, and the overall value of the free press. Rated PG. **Because of technical difficulties, this film is postponed until the 2009 Film Series***
Thursday, July 17: 6:30pm
"Brokeback Mountain" Oscar-winning film starring Jake Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger. Presented by Sharon Nichols. The controversial story of a forbidden and secret relationship between two cowboys that lasts for decades. Rated R.
Thursday, July 24: 6:30pm
"Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" Starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law. Presented by ICM Director Susan Reed. After New York City receives a series of attacks from giant flying robots, a reporter teams up with a pilot in search of their origin, as well as the reason for the disappearances of famous scientists from around the world. Rated PG.
Friday, August 1: 6:30pm
"The Other Woman" A comedy short presented by its' writer and director, Lake Charles native Casey Kelly. When Texan Hank Gibbs spots a naked woman boldly displaying herself at roadside, he does what any other sensitive guy would do: he brings her home to his wife and daughter. As the dangerous day turns to night, quite unexpectedly, this "other woman" proves transformative for the whole family. Rated PG-13.

"The Bracelet of Bordeaux" Someone is dognapping the canine citizens of Chem City, Texas! Two pre-teen girls overcome danger and conspiracies as they set out to solve the crime and administer justice with the help of a magical bracelet. As the girls battle the Mob, a punk gang, and a crooked cop, they learn something about friendship, courage, and hanging with the right crowd.
